Vinicius Jr. of Real Madrid was awarded a red card during the 1-0 loss to Valentia on Sunday, but that decision has been overturned.

Following the racial taunts thrown at the Real Madrid star during the game, La Liga also punished Valencia with a partial stadium ban.

At the Mestalla, Vinicius was the focus of derogatory chants and gestures from home supporters. The 22-year-old made an effort to alert the referee to the crowd before getting into a heated disagreement with Valencia striker Hugo Duro that resulted in his red card in the 97th minute of play.

On Tuesday, the Spanish FA [RFEF] said that the red card had been overturned.

Five games will also see the closure of the Mario Kempes Stand at the Mestalla. A €45,000 punishment will also be paid by the club.

“The Committee has sanctioned Valencia CF with the partial closure of the Mestalla stadium for five matches, more specifically of the south stand Mario Kempes, following the events which took place during the Primera División National League Championship match between the home team and Real Madrid CF.

“In addition, a financial penalty of 45,000 euros was imposed on Valencia,” the FA statement said.
