Kepa Arrizabalaga was one of Chelsea’s few redeeming qualities throughout their worst-ever season, and today our starting goalkeeper was honored for his efforts by winning the Premier League’s Save of the Season title!
This honor, which is just in its second year, belongs to him as the first Chelsea goalie.

Kepa faced stiff competition for the accolade, but none of the other nominees could surpass his three saves against Aston Villa in October, which helped keep a crucial three points in tact. (Kepa actually made 7 saves in that 2-0 victory, keeping the scoreless. He would need to make that many saves again and again.)
While his game still has flaws (some of which will always exist), it was good to see Kepa get past his individually worst 2019–20 season. We’ll have to wait and see if it means he retains his position for the upcoming season or if we introduce new competition or a new number-one (or give it to Gaga immediately!).
