A 29-year-old American woman named Tradezsha Trenay Bibbs receives a life sentence for murdering Brielle Robinson, her own 4-month-old daughter.
Kim Ogg, the district attorney for Harris County, announced the decision and said that Bibbs had been found guilty of felony murder.
On April 16, 2016, the event happened at the Red Carpet Hotel on Gulf Freeway in Houston. Bibbs later admitted to repeatedly dropping and hitting the child, causing multiple fractures and severe head trauma. Bibbs initially claimed that Brielle had fallen out of her car seat.
Keaton Forcht, an assistant district attorney, claimed throughout the trial that Bibbs committed the crime because their relationship with the baby’s father had terminated.
According to testimony from emergency department physicians, Bibbs had no concern for her daughter’s health or the effects of the fatal head injuries she had caused. A prior death penalty conviction against Bibbs was overturned, necessitating a new trial.
“Bibbs deserved a life sentence for what she did to her child. She beat her countless times and seemed to care about as much about the death of her daughter as she did about the life of her daughter.” Forcht said.
Ogg however noted, “Our office stands up for all victims, but a baby is the most innocent of victims. We believed that a life sentence was appropriate for this brutal murder and a Harris County jury agreed.”
