Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president in 2023, has urged that Nigeria set a minimum retirement age for all politicians.
In an interview with Arise Television, Obi stated that it is crucial for the nation to set a fixed retirement age for its lawmakers in order to give the next generation of leaders a chance.
The former governor of the state of Anambra stated in the interview that elderly individuals shouldn’t be trusted to lead a nation like Nigeria.
Obi made this statement in response to inquiries regarding the youth of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Lagos State, who just turned 40.
According to one of the speakers, Rhodes-age Vivour’s and lack of background in Nigerian politics and government raises questions.
His words:
“It is laughable.
“If we can retire bishops at 70 years, professors and teachers at the age of 70, left for me, I will say it is time we put a retirement age on politics and for politicians.”
