A 35 year old man identified as Sunday Alani on Wednesday 23rd of February was arrested by the Ogun state police for child theft.
It was gathered that the suspect was caught stealing a one year old child at Atolashe village in Odeda local government area of Ogun state.
According to source, the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the policemen attached to Odeda divisional headquarters.
It was said that while the little girl was playing around in her parent’s compound, the suspect secretly took the girl while her mother was busy frying garri (Cassava flakes) and ran away with her.
A person who passed by, noticed the movement of the suspect and then called the attention of the mother who raised the alarm.
The DPO Odeda division, CSP Femi Olabode mobilized some of his men in conjunction with so safe corpsmen and moved to the scene. The suspect was chased to the bush where he was arrested and the child rescued from him.
The suspect when interrogated confessed that he came to the area with two women who are his accomplices. He continued by saying that he had previously stolen two children from Egbeda in Lagos and Akute area of Ogun state. He also went further by saying that once he succeeded in stealing a child, he will hand such child to the two women who will give him the sum of eighty thousand naira.
The two women are on the hunt by the police to bring them to justice.
As at the time of this report, the suspect has been transferred to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
