Bola Tinubu is now officially recognized as the 2023 presidential election victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Wednesday morning, INEC Chairman Yakubu Mahmood proclaimed Tinubu the poll winner and president-elect.

The election for president was held on Saturday throughout the 36 states of the union and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Violence, logistical concerns, the theft of BVAS, and other problems caused the election to be postponed till Sunday in certain voting places throughout several states.

State collation officers for the presidential election (SCOPs) handed the election results to the INEC chairman at the National Collation Center following collation at state INEC collation centers.

Mahmood declared that Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, had won the election with the majority of the votes cast in Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Atiku Abubakar of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who received 6,984,520 votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who received 6,101,533 votes and finished third, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), who received 1,496,687 votes, were all opponents of the APC candidate.

Tinubu, Obi, and Atiku each won 12 of the 36 states and the FCT, but Kwankwaso only prevailed in Kano State.

The 12 states won by Tinubu are Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Benue, Rivers, Borno, Zamfara, Jigawa, Ondo, Kogi and Niger State.

Taraba, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Bayelsa, Kebbi, Bauchi, Gombe, and Katsina were won by PDP candidate Atiku.

Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Delta, Edo, FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Lagos, and Cross River were among the states that Obi won.
