Reports reaching The Honcho Gist, a hunter kills his neighbor at about 3a.m in the morning after mistaken him for a very big animal.
The hunter who is identified as Ismaila Ojo reportedly shot his neighbor at Ita-Merin village, near Ore in Ondo state.
According to reports gathered, he shot dead a 70-year-old neighbor, who was defecating in the bush at the back of the house. Ojo had claimed he was testing his gun.
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Oyeyemi Ouediran confirmed that the hunter has been arrested and taken to the police custody.
The suspect(hunter) while he was speaking with journalist, said that he shot (kills) the old man (his neighbor) at about 3a.m but insisted that he killed the man mistaking him for an animal.
The hunter claimed to be a registered hunter and said that he was the one who raised the alarm after he mistakenly shot the man and he afterwards took him to the near farm settlement for medical attention.
He added by saying that if he did it deliberately, he would not have raised the alarm for help.
He further said that the victim died few days after the incident and pleaded for mercy, saying he could not have killed his neighbor for nothing. “I have never committed a crime in my life; everybody knows me as a hunter; I don’t know how animals turned to human being. Have mercy on me,” he said
