Prof. Onje Gye-Wado, a former deputy governor of Nassarawa state, has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen.
Gye-Wado, who served as vice governor of Nassarawa under Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu’s administration from 1999 to 2003, was kidnapped from his home in the Wamba local government area early on Friday, April 7.
The state police command’s spokeswoman, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the occurrence and said:
“Information received by the police command indicated that on Friday, April 7 at about 12:30 a.m., gunmen invaded Gwagi Village in Wamba LGA, broke into the residence of the former Deputy Governor and abducted him to an unknown destination.
“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives attached to Wamba Division swiftly moved to the scene, but the hoodlums had fled with the victim before their arrival,” the police spokesperson stated
In addition to the ongoing search to free the hostage who is still alive, Nansel said that the state commissioner of police has further deployed reinforcement consisting of police tactical teams, the military, vigilance organizations, and local hunters. He gave the people his word that the police would take all necessary steps to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime and bring them before the law.
