Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, former president of the university’s academic staff union ASUU, revealed that a new strike by lecturers at public universities in the country in 2023 cannot be ruled out.

Ogniemi made the announcement on Saturday when he appeared on Channels TV’s his 2022: In Retrospect.

No one can promise no strikes in 2023 - former ASUU chairman

Recall that in 2022, ASUU launched his action on a strike that would last more than eight months.

However, the ASUU ended the strike following a labor court ruling ordering union members to return to work.

However, the federal government paid teachers half their salaries in October, citing a no-work-no-pay policy.

Ogunyemi said the federal government was insensitive to the ASUU’s plight, pointing out that ASUU members were also working in arrears and that it was unfair not to pay delinquent members.

“We need to understand what triggers strike action. I don’t think anyone can promise not to strike [in 2023],” Ogniemi said.
