The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU makes preparation to go for a strike as it urges its chapters across the country to sensitize members of the public on the situation between the union and the Federal Government as it declares Monday, February 7, 2022, as a lecture-free day in a bid to enhance the sensitization.
Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, The National President of the Union on Saturday disclosed this during an interview.
This is coming weeks after the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari pledged the commitment of his administration to fulfilling the agreement with the union.
ASUU accused the government after signing the Memorandum of Action of not fulfilling its side of the bargain and so threatened to embark on another strike.
Prof Osodeke clarified that the union had not yet declared a strike but would be sensitizing the public, which includes the media, on the state of affairs between the union and the Federal Government.
The last national strike by ASUU was in March 2020 and it lasted for almost 10 months which ended in December 2020, when a Memorandum of Action was signed.
